When Malcolm was 20 years old, he joined the AC/DC band in November 1973. After he joined the AC/DC band, he began a national touring together with singer Dave Evans. In 1974, he played the guitar on Evie, an Australian rock song. This song was written by Stevie Wright and produced by Harry Vanda and George Young.
Later in 1976, the AC/DC band was relocated to the UK, and they started a heavy schedule of international touring and recording. The first six Albums of the band were produced by ex-Easybeats members Harry Vanda and George Young. They also recorded a big selling Album, Back in Black with singer Brian Johnson.
Talking about his personal life, Malcolm is the holder of Australian nationality and belongs to Scottish-Irish ethnicity. In April 2014, Malcolm became seriously ill and stopped performing. After diagnosed it was found that he had lung cancer. Three years later, Malcolm died on 18 November 2017 at the age of 64.
Malcolm married his girlfriend O'Linda after dating her for some time. The couple together gave birth to two children, Cara and Ross. He lived along with his wife and children in the United Kingdom before his death.
