As his parents worked at a local ski school near Annaberg in Austria, he received many opportunities to ski on his own. He was two and a half when he first skied. After recovering from the injury, he had an outstanding season in 2012, with 9 victories and a total of 14 podiums. The same year in October, the International Association of Ski Journalists honored him the Skieur d’Or Award for his all over performances during the previous season.
The following year, Hirscher won the overall World title for the second time with 6 victories, also winning the slalom title as well as runner-up in the giant slalom.

Similarly, on December 17, 2017, he won the giant slalom race in Alta Badia, which was also his fifth consecutive victory in that place. Likewise, he became Austria’s most prolific World Cup race winner after winning a slalom in Saalbach-Hinterglemm in his native of Salzburg.
