Marcus Samuelsson was born on 25th January 1970 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. His mother died because of tuberculosis. Later Marcus and his sister were adopted by Ann Marie and Lennart Samuelsson. He holds Ethiopian Nationality and belongs to Black ethnicity.

When Marcus was two years old, his mother was affected by tuberculosis. Her major health problem took her life which leads Marcus and his sister Orphaned. They were sent to Orphanage after that and later they were adopted.

In 2010, Marcus opened his third restaurant Red Rooster and founded FoodRepublic.com too. He opened Ginny's Supper Club, in 2012 and in the fall he and Clarion Hotels, launched new restaurant concept called Kitchen & Table.

He received a first three-star rating from the New York Times at a young age. In 2003, he opened the New York restaurant and launched “Inner Chef” and later “Urban Cuisine” TV Show. In 2010, he opened Kitchen & Table concept restaurant. Marcus is also an author of numerous books such as The Soul of a New Cuisine, New American Table, A Memoir, and others. He has received the James Beard Rising Star Chef award and was also named “Best Chef: New York City”, “Great Chef of America” and also won Top Chef Master TV reality show.
