Maris Valainis was born on February 18, 1963, in Indiana, United States. He is an American construction consultant and a former actor, best known for his role in the 1986 film Hoosiers. He was born and raised in Indiana and graduated from Indianapolis Bishop Chatard High School in 1981.

Valainis was an all-state golfer at Bishop Chatard High School and was a member of the golf team at Purdue University. He tried out for his high school basketball team four times but was cut each time. He does not have any siblings and his parents' names are not known.

After graduating from high school, Valainis moved to California to pursue a career in acting. He landed a few small roles, one of them being Scott Thorson in the TV biopic Liberace (1988), before turning his attention to golf.

Valainis had been an all-state golfer at Bishop Chatard High School in Indianapolis, Indiana, as well as a member of the golf team at Purdue University. After giving up on acting, he began a career in golf course management, including working as a caddie for professional golfers.
