On the 17th of June 1995, Martie got married to Ted Seidel. Ted Seidel is a pharmaceutical representative. After being his loving spouse, she changed her last name to Seidel. They were happily married but this married life ended in divorce in 1999.
In early 2000, when Martie was attending her bandmate Natalie Maines' sister Kim's wedding, she met her future husband Gareth Maguire. Gareth Maguire is an actor and a school teacher. They began their love affairs and began dating each other as a boyfriend and girlfriend. Martie's interest in music propped up at a young age. When she was just five years old, she began learning piano and on her 12th birthday she was gifted fiddle lessons and she began playing fiddle style from that time on. She began playing music and singing songs with her sister Emily. She began playing several musical instruments like viola, guitar, mandolin, and double bass. She also composed several songs. In 1984, she formed the teenage bluegrass group Blue Night Express with her sister and her school friends Troy and Sharon Gilchrist and they played together till 1989. She completed her high school graduation in 1988. She joined the country music band Dixie Chicks and they began recording their debut album. She founded the country music and folk duo Court Yard Hounds in 2010 with her sister Emily Robison.
