Maryum Ali is an American rapper and a comedian, who is best known for being the daughter of the legendary boxer Muhammad Ali. Apart from being a celebrity daughter she is well remembered for her debut album The Introduction.

Maryum Ali's early life and parents

Maryum Ali, also known as “May May,” is the eldest of Muhammad Ali’s nine children and was born on June 18, 1968. She was born and raised in the province of Chicago, Illinois. She graduated Magna Cum Laude in B.A in the field of Social Work.

Maryum is the full sisters of twins Jamillah Ali and Rasheda Ali, and brother Muhammad Ali Jr. She also has five step-brothers/sisters. Her mother is Belinda Boyd.

Maryum Ali's professional career

She first started out as a stand-up comedian and has dedicated 12 years of her life to comedy. She was a regular performer at The Comedy Store in Hollywood, where she performed alongside great names in comedy like Jim Carrey, Chris Rock, and Martin Lawrence.

While she was still a comedian, she took special interests in Hip-hop and had already started writing rap lyrics with plans of releasing her songs soon.

In 1992, Ali emerged as a rap artist with her first debut album The Introduction. The album was produced and released by Scottie Brother’s Records.

Her views regarding music are quite exemplary. She strongly believes that music has a way to inspire youth to struggle for their dreams and desires despite all the challenges and hardships that life may bring upon them.

Though Maryum entered the rap industry, she was soon pissed off with the new trend of introducing vulgarity in lyrics of rap songs.

May May then decide that she needed a change in career as a rapper and decided to lengthen her hands of help in a more direct way by helping young people.

It was then that she left show-biz and graduated Magna Cum Laude in Social Work. During her graduation, she worked as a trained Mediator for Clark County Social Services, Neighborhood Justice Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Ali has 15 years of experience in delinquency prevention and family development. She has direct practice experience with over 300 families. She is recently seeking private funding for the non-profit organization, DTML, gang prevention, and youth development program that she co-founded with Nason Buchanan.

May May is also the author of a children’s picture book I Shook Up the World: The Incredible Life of Muhammad Ali. The story depicts the biography of her father Muhammad Ali and his love life and affairs.

Ali is also the spokesperson for Team Parkinson and The Parkinson’s Unity Walk.

She has appeared on many television networks such as CNN, ABC, NBC, ESPN, BBC and many more. She is currently for A&E’s new docu-series, “60 Days in”.
