John joined the University of Technology, Sydney, from where he completed the Bachelor of Business. Later he attended the Institute of Chartered Accountants. While he was studying at university, he was elected as the UTS Student Representative Council. He was also elected as the SRC Executive Member for the Haymarket Campus.
John joined the Liberal Party in 2001 and after serving several years for the party, he was elected as a vice-president of the NSW Young Liberals. He has also worked as an advisor for the Leader of the Opposition, John Brogden, during 2003 State election campaign. He also worked as the advisor for Hon. Catherin Cusack MLC while she was Shadow Minister for Juvenile Justice and Women.
After the retirement of the sitting member, Judy Hopwood, John participated in the pre-selection for the safe Liberal seat in opposition to Nick Berman who was Hornsby Mayor as well as Steve Russell, a Hornsby Councillor. After the selection of John, Nick Berman retired from the Liberal Party and he competed against John as an independent candidate during the 2011 State election, the result came in Johan's side; however, his party suffered a swing of 3.5 points.
After he was selected, he gave an inaugural speech asking the government to spend $10 million on suicide prevention campaigns so that it can be controlled. He was also supported by Professor Ian Hickey and the Minister for Mental Health Kevin Humphries.
John has also hosted an annual Youth Forum in conjunction with Black Dog Institute, which aimed to educate students and teachers about issues relating to mental health and has launched a new mental health inpatient facility in Hornsby.
John is an Australian by nationality and belongs to white ethnicity; currently, he is single and it seems that he wants to maintain privacy on his personal life and doesn't reveal information related to his girlfriend or affairs. He has not married till yet so there is no any sign of divorce and children.
