Harris-Peryy was an associate professor at Princeton University after leaving the University of Chicago where she taught political science for almost 7 years until 2006. She wanted to have a full professorship at Princeton. After being denied in doing so, she then went on to join Tulane University in 2011 where she was director of a project called Anna Julia Cooper. On July 1, 2014, she then returned to Wake Forest University where she was responsible for handling political and international affairs.

 Her current husband's name is James Perry who is an extraordinary community activist. She is the mother of two daughters Parker and Anna James. It looks like the couple is really enjoying their married life and happy together. Their relation is going perfectly and there are no signs of splitting or an extra-marital affair.
