He attended St. Pius X High School and completed his high school education. He graduated from the University of California, San Diego in 1986 with a major in physics. In 1989, after seeing animation cels (celluloid) on display in a movie theater, Judge purchased a Bolex 16 mm film camera and began creating his own animated shorts. His big break came when the MTV cable channel aired his two-minute cartoon Frog Baseball and hired Judge to create an animated series based on its protagonists.
