Interested in photography from an early age, Schulman eventually joined Sarah Lawrence College and studied Photography and Dance. While he was a student at Sarah Lawrence College, he was involved in an incident with a female student and was expelled from the college. Later, he said that he hit the woman in self-defense.
Later in life, Schulman formed a film and photography production company along with his brother Ariel. After a year, he started photographing dance and involved in Contemporary dance.
