Jimmy Gonzalez, Tejano Singer With Brownsville's Grupo Mazz, Dies at Age 67

Jimmy Gonzalez, the frontman for the Grammy-winning Tejano group Jimmy Gonzalez y el Grupo Mazz, has died in Texas at the age of 67 following an illness.

According to a promoter for the group's label, Freddie Records, Jimmy passed away on Wednesday, June 6 morning in San Antonio. As per the report, Jimmy had health problems including complications from diabetes.

According to a Facebook post shared by San Antonio radio station KXTN, family members had confirmed the death of the singer at a San Antonio hospital.

Local media has reported that the late songster had been taken to a hospital after his blood sugar dropped. He reportedly died about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

According to the Recording Academy, Jimmy earned three Grammy nominations between 1990 and 2003 and was awarded the best Tejano album Grammy with his group band for Si Me Faltas Tu at the 46th Grammy Awards.

The award-winning musician was also famous by the Latin Recording Academy by winning six Latin Grammys throughout his career.
