December 17 , 1936

Born in the year of 1936

Pope Francis was born as Jorge Mario Bergoglio to Italian immigrants, Mario Jose Bergoglio and Regina María Sívori in 1936, December,17. He was the eldest of the five children of the couple who later became 266th Pope of the Roman Catholic Church.

1963

Received a philosophy degree in 1963

He received a philosophy degree in the year of 1963. After pursuing a degree in the philospphy, he spent the next three years teaching literature and psychology. After then, he studied theology from the year of 1967 to 1970.

1973

Elected as provincial in the year of 1973

In the year of 1973, he made his perpetual vows in the society, then that year he was elected as the provincial for the Argentina.After his time as provincial, he served as the rector the seminary at San Miguel.

1986

Doctoral in 1986

 In March 1986, he moved to Germany to finish his doctoral thesis at the Sankt Georgen Graduate School of Philosophy and Theology in Frankfurt. Thereafter, he returned to Argentina to serve as a spiritual director and confessor at the Colegio del Salvador.

1997

Appointed to the position of Archbishop in 1997

In 1992, he was ordained as  Titular Bishop of Auca and Auxiliary of Buenos Aires by Cardinal Antonio Quarracino. Later, in the year of  1997, he was promoted and appointed to the position of Coadjutor Archbishop of Buenos Aries.

2005

President of Argentine Bishop’s in 2005

In 2005, Bergoglio was elected as President of the Argentine Bishops' Conference, which he served for two terms until 2011. The Same year, he participated in the Papal Conclave as a Cardinal elector in which  Pope Benedict XVI was elected.

2013

Ordained as pope on 2013

He was Ordained as Pope on March 13, 2013. He was at the age of 76 when he became pope of Roman Catholic church. He is the first citizen of the America, the first non-European and first Jesuit priest to be named  Pope.

Content

Till date, his tenure has been characterized by humility and outspoken support of the world’s poor and marginalized people, and he is actively involved in areas of political diplomacy and environmental advocacy.

His running at the age of 81 and till this date he remains unmarried.  As he entered into the priesthood, he had no interest in any sort of relationship and attachment with girls from his early days.

Today, people around the world regards him as a spiritual and world leader. In September 2013, he held an event where more than 100,0000 people attended to pray for peace in Syria.
