Rachel Anne Griffiths is an Australian actress born on 18 December 1968 (49 years) in New Castle, New South Wales, Australia. She is an Australian by nationality and belongs to white ethnicity. She gained prominence in 1994 from an Australian movie Muriel’s Wedding.

She also played Brenda Chenowith in the HBO series Six Feet Under and Sarah Walker Laurent on the ABC drama series Brother and Sister.

Griffiths spent her childhood on the Gold Coast. Later, she moved to Melbourne with her mother and two older brothers at the age of 5. She finished her high school studies from Star of the Sea College.

She earned her bachelor degree in drama and dance from Victoria College, Rusden. After her graduation, she started her career as a Woolly Jumpers, a Geelong-based community theatre group.

Her first success was as the creator and performer of Barbie Gets Hip, which was portrayed at the Melbourne Fringe Festival in 1991.
