During Rizzo was in high school, his friend's revolutionary idea to perform in a local talent show was really worth a lot. While performing together, they were able to draw the attention of local musicians, songwriters, and producers. After an audition, Maurice Starr who wanted to bring fresh talent signed them and named them as "New Edition" as they were the new edition of the Jackson 5.
Maurice signed them to his independent Streetwise Records label adding the fifth member of the group. They debut their first album, "Candy Girl" in 1983. The album with the teen-oriented hit single songs, "Popcorn Love", and "Is This the End" became a big hit.

Then they signed with major label MCA Records through which they released their second album, "New Edition".

Besides New Edition, all the members released their own solo albums. Tresvant's soft, smooth, approachable vocals won the heart of millions of people, and his self-titled solo song was released in 1990. His songs, "Do What I Gotta Do" and "Stone Cold Gentleman" became big hit and his song "Sensitivity" was listed as No. 1 on the U.S. R&B Singles chart.
