Ray Sawyer, Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show Singer, Dies at Age 81

Ray Sawyer, the Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show singer who was famous for his eye patch and his cowboy hat, has died, his publicist has confirmed. He was 81.

Born on February 1, 1937, in Chickasaw, Alabama, Sawyer passed away in Daytona Beach. The exact cause of death of the late singer has yet to be revealed. However, a representative for the band confirmed said he died following a short illness.

Sawyer appeared on a series of hits in the ’70s and ’80s, including Sylvia’s Mother, Only Sixteen, A Little Bit More, Walk Right In, Sharing the Night Together, Better Love Next Time, When You’re in Love with a Beautiful Woman and Sexy Eyes.

As per the report, Sawyer had quit performing around three years ago because of his declining health.

Following his exit from the band, Sawyer continued to tour as Dr. Hook featuring Ray Sawyer until late 2015.

He used to wear an eye patch as he had lost his right eye in a car crash in 1967.

Funeral services for the late singer will be announced in the coming days. Rest In Peace Ray Sawyer!
