Though she was born in Hazard, Kentucky, she grew up in Pine Top, Kentucky. And then she moved to New York City and began studying at Professional Children's School and the Lee Strasberg Institute. She graduated from there some years later.

The pair was engaged from 1996 - 2004. Rebecca's former fiancee Brett was accused of sexual misconduct including Olivia Munn, Natasha Henstridge in late 2017.

Rebecca is married to her actor boyfriend Eric Dane. The couple is also parents to two daughters, Billie Beatrice and Georgia Geraldine.

Rebecca was sentenced to three years of probation and a one-year suspension of her driving license, a $2,800 fine and 750 hours of community service, following June 13, 2001's incident. She hit a nine-year-old Jorge Cruz Jr. while driving through the street of Los Angeles, and she pleaded no contest to vehicular manslaughter.
