At the age of 25, Rick started dating actress back when she was 15. The pair dated each other from late 1974 to early 1976. On 27th of October, 1987, he got married to Barbara Porter. She is a simple housewife and spends most of her time with her family. They fell lucky to have each other as loving spouse and they also have two children from this married life. It is also said they met each other for a long time and they were also involved in love affairs before they got tied the knot.
While Rick was 17 he tried to commit suicide by hanging. He has been dealing with depression for several decades. During an exclusive interview with ABC New's Paula Faris, he said,
I want them to have hope ... and know that the moment will pass. I'm an example of the moment passing, because I've been there a couple of times, and haven't ... for want of a better phrase, pulled the trigger.
When he was a child, he spends his days in the army camp as his father was Australian Army career officer. Since his childhood days, he was interested in music. When he was in his early teens he got a chance to attend the concert of The Beatles and after this, he also desired to begin his career as a musician. He began playing guitar and several other musical instruments since that time on. He joined musical group Zoot in 1969. The band has released five albums to date including 4 Shades of Pink (EP) (1969), Just Zoot (1970), Zoot Out (1971), Best of the Zoot Locker (1969-71) and Live- The Reunion (CD/DVD).
He remained there as a lead vocalist for about two years and then finally began his solo career in 1971. In October 1971, Rick signed with Sparmac Records and released his debut solo single Speak to the Sky. Speak to the Sky reached No. 5 on the Go-Set singles chart. In 1973, Rick signed with Columbia Records and released his second album Comic Book Heros. While working with Columbia Records, he also appeared as himself in the ABC-TV Saturday morning cartoon series Mission: Magic!. He also continued to write to record and in 1981, he released his next album titled Working Class Dog. Working Class Dog made it to No.7 on the Billboard 200.
He then went on the release albums like Success Hasn't Spoiled Me Yet (1982), Living Oz (1983), Beautiful Feelings (1984), Tao (1985), which took his popularity to next level. He released his latest album The Snake King in January 2018.
He is also an actor and for his role in General Hospital, he earned the salary of $750 per week. His net worth is rumored to be around $12 million dollars. He owns a house in Malibu, California.
