In 1994, Robert got married to American author and journalist Lara Marlowe. Together they didn't welcome any children and they finally got divorce in 2006.
Multiple award winner, Robert began his professional career from Sunday Express. There he served as an editor and then after having feud with John Junor, he joined The Times as their news correspondent. In April 1989, he joined The Independent. He gained massive popularity after The New York Times claimed him to be the most famous foreign correspondent in Britain. Since the beginning of his career, he reported several war news like news related to the Iran–Iraq War, the Gulf War, the Bosnian War and the Algerian Civil War. He interviewed Osama bin Laden three times and Osama bin Laden really appreciated him and he also claimed Robert to be one of his brothers. His annual salary is in millions and his net worth is said to be high.
