Robert Towne is an American Screenwriter, producer, director, and actor. The most notable work on his Academy Award-winning original screenplay for Roman Polanski's Chinatown (1974). He was born on 1934, 23rd November in Los Angeles, California, USA, and raised in the seaport town of San Pedro, the son of Helen and Lou Schwartz.
His father ran a ladies clothing shop called the Towne Smart Shop. Robert did his schooling from Chadwick School and a graduate of Pomona College in Claremont, California; studied acting with Jeff Corey.
Robert is best-known for his Academy Award-winning original screenplay for Roman Polanski's Chinatown (1974), which is widely considered one of the greatest screenplays ever written. He wrote its sequel The Two Jakes in, and also wrote the Hal Ashby comedy-dramas The Last Detail, and Shampoo, as well as the first two Mission Impossible films.
Towne has also directed various films such as the sports dramas Personal Best, and Without Limits (1998), the crime thriller Tequila Sunrise, and the romantic crime drama Ask the Dust.
Talking about his personal life he married twice, he first married to Julie Payne (is an American actress) in the year 1977. The couple blessed with once child named Katharine Payne but they divorce after a four-year. He again married to Luisa Gaule in the year and has one child named Chiara Gaule.
