Roberto was born in Barrio San Antón, Carolina, to father Don Melchor Clemente and mother Luisa Walker and was raised in his birthplace along with his siblings and friends.

Inducted into the Hall of Fame

The Baseball Writers' Association of America held a special election for the Baseball Hall of Fame. Due to the circumstances of the death of Roberto, the team elected him for induction into the Hall of Fame, giving him 393 out of 420 available votes, i.e., 92.7% of the total.

Roberto was seven youngest siblings of his family. He had four brothers and two sisters. While he was childhood, his father was working as foreman of sugar crops, which was located in the municipality. Because of the weak economic condition, he worked together with his father in the fields, loading and unloading trucks. 

While Roberto was the child he showed his interest in baseball and often played against neighboring barrios. He Joined Julio Vizcarrondo Coronado High School in Carolina. While he was playing baseball in barrio San Antónen, he was selected by Roberto Marín to play softball with the Sello Rojo team. He played baseball for this team as a shortstop. When he was 16 years old, he joined Puerto Rico's amateur league in which Angel Pagan has also played baseball. 

After playing Baseball for twelve seasons, Roberto became All-Star in fifteen All-Star Games. He also became the NL Most Valuable Player in 1966 as well as the NL batting leader in 1961, 1964, 1965, and 1967. He also won a Gold Glove Award for his outstanding performance in twelve consecutive seasons from 1961 to 1972. 

During his professional career, Roberto won more than 300, batting average for thirteen seasons as well as 3,000 hits. He has also played in two World Series championships. He was the first Latin American and Caribbean baseball player to help win a World Series as a beginner and awarded himself the NL MVP Award and a World Series MVP Award. 

Clemente was a Puerto Rican by nationality and belongs to an African American ethnicity. He married his long-term girlfriend, Vera Cristina Zabala. The couple blessed with three children. The couple is living a happy married life, and they were never rumored for having extra-marital affairs. While he was delivering aid to earthquake victims in Nicaragua, he died in a plane crash.
