Ross was born in Queenstown, Singapore on May 17, 1990, to a British-Dutch father and Chinese-Malaysian mother. He was raised in Fairfax, Virginia, by his mother. He holds American nationality and comes from a mixed ethnic background (British, Dutch, Chinese, Malaysian).

Ross attended Langley High School and graduated in 2008. He then enrolled at Ohio State University for one year before dropping out.

Ross then moved to Los Angeles and started taking acting classes. Ross' first TV role was in the 2012 television film The Gateway Life where he played the role of Allen.
