Roy Carroll came into the field of football through the youth team of Fivemiletown United. He also played for youth club Ballinamallard United.
As a trainee, Roy Carroll joined the professional team Hull City A.F.C. in 1995. After two years, he left the club after making 46 appearances for the team. He then signed a contract with Wigan Athletic, in 1997, with the transfer fee €525K and made his official debut for the club in November as a backup player for Lee Butler.
Carroll has so far played in 138 games for the team. Along with his team, he won the Football League Trophy in 1998.
Roy Carroll signed a new deal with Manchester United for €3 million in July 2001. Later, he gave his remarkable performance against Tottenham Hotspur. In 2012, Roy Carroll signed a new deal with Olympiacos, with the transfer fee €330 thousand and his first match was against Rubin Kazan's team in the Europa League, came as a backup player. In the 2012-13 season, he became the first choice goalkeeper. His team won Superleague Greece (2011-12,2012-13, 2013-14) and Greek Cup (2011-12,2012-13). Then after, he played for Notts County for two years.
Currently, Carroll plays for Linfield since 2016 as a goalkeeper. Till this date, he has played 35 games.
Carroll began his international career in 1998 and represented his team in Northern Ireland U-21. Later, he was named as the Northern Ireland International Personality in 2013. Till this date, he won 45 caps for the national team.
As a football star, he was honored with Second Division PFA Team of the Year in 2000, Danish Goalkeeper of the Year in 2009.
Besides, Roy Carroll honored with a Red Cross Humanitarian Award for his kindness to a child with “Leukemia.” Later, he went to rehabilitation for his alcoholic, and gambling habit, under the name of Jonathon Walker. On other hands, he managed the English professional football club, Barnet F.C. in 2011.
Carroll got married to his beautiful wife, Kerry. The couple blessed with a son, Jordan and daughter, Ellie Carroll. Till this date, there are no news or rumors which led them to divorce. Besides his marriage, he hasn't extramarital affairs.
