When Jackson joined Morehouse College in Atlanta, he got involved in the black-power movement. When Samuel was in his younger age he protested the absence of blacks on the board of trustees by locking several board member in a building for 2 days and was immediately expelled from the college. After working as a social worker for several years in Los Angeles, Jackson returned to Morehouse to complete BA in acting.
After Jackson’s studies, he joined the Black Image Theatre Company with his wife, LaTanya Richardson, whom he met at Spelman College. They together toured the country and performed skits characterized by a fiery combination of rage and humor to primarily white audiences.
