Scott was enrolled at Coronado High School during his childhood days. He has been working as a journalist since he was aged 15. During that year he worked at Lubbock Avalanche-Journal as a copyboy. After his high school graduation from Coronado High School, he joined Texas Tech University with a major in journalism. In 1975, he joined Lubbock's KSEL-TV and that was the beginning of his professional broadcasting career. He worked there for about three years and then he joined KXAS-TV in Fort Worth in 1978. In the early 1980s, he was hired by WFAA-TV and he served them till the end of 1980s. In 1989, he joined CBS News and he began covering the national affairs from the CBS bureau. He is also famous for covering the news about the 1990/91 Gulf war, the assault on Iraq and Kuwait and many more. In 1997, he was named the CBS News' Chief White House Correspondent and he served in this position till 1999. On 6th of June 2011, he was named an anchor of CBS Evening News. He has been earning massive amount of salary as a journalist and his net worth is $15 million.
