They, then, started dating and got engaged on 31 December 1999. The couple tied the knot in the grand ceremony in the Plaza Hotel in New York. The couple has two children; an elder son Dylan Michael and a daughter Carys Zeta. After Douglas was diagnosed with tongue cancer, Catherine started suffering from depression resulting in bipolar II disorder.
