Amin completed her secondary education from British International Schools. She also attended American University from where she earned her Master’s degree in television journalism. After that she began her career as a radio DJ. In 1994, she joined Egypt’s state television Nile TV.

Within few period of time after she began working at Nile TV, she was promoted to the post of deputy head. In 2000, she joined CNN where she worked as a news broadcaster and news correspondent. She is mainly known for being the correspondent of the CNN’s weekly show, Inside Africa.

In the Egyptian Revolution of 2011, she denied to cover the news about Tahrir protests. Nile TV only allowed her to broadcast the news about the pro-Mubarak ones, so she resigned from this post on 3rd of February 2011.
