Born as John Edward Bayless II in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, United States of America to American parents, Skip never heard his parents calling him by his first name John. He is an American and is of white ethnicity.

1974

Graduated from Vanderbilt University

After his high school graduation from some high school, he joined Vanderbilt University with a Grantland Rice Scholarship. There he majored in English and history and he finally graduated from there in 1974 with Cum Laude.

1969

Took an intern at The Daily Oklahoman

Skip Bayless childhood dream was sports and he began playing baseball and basketball since his young age. As he was also great in writing besides his sports interest, he was also offered the post of the primary sports columnist for the school newspaper. In 1969, he also took an intern at The Daily Oklahoman under sports editor Frank Boggs.

1976

Joined Los Angeles Times

During his days in this University, he also joined The Hustler and began serving them as the sports editor. He then joined The Miami Herald and began writing sports features. He worked there for about two years and then he joined Los Angeles Times in 1976.

Won Eclipse Award

It took his just couple of years to finally be honored with some prestigious awards. After he joined Los Angeles Times, he investigated several hot stories and the following year, he was honored with the Eclipse Award. He was honored with this award for Outstanding Newspaper Writing.
