Sophia was born and raised in a middle class family. She received her formal education from Westridge School for Girls. There she was also active as a member of the volleyball team. She graduated from there in 2000 and then she joined University of Southern California with a major in journalism. Though she was not interested in acting as a child, she chooses acting as her profession at the later stage of her life. She made her acting debut in 2002 by starring the role of Carrie Orr in a 2002 biographical crime film Point of Origin.
