Steve joined the "George Washington University" in 2007and started working as the president of the University. He was the 16th president of George University after Stephen Joel Trachtenberg.
Previously, Steve was the dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at the "Johns Hopkins University" in 1994 and he worked for two years and left the school in 1996.
During the Steve presidency, the University lost the place in its ranking as per the News of US and World report because of misreporting scandal.
Knapp worked on the boards of directors for various institutes including the Economic Club of Washington, the Greater Washington Urban League, the World Affairs Council, the National Symphony Orchestra, the boards of trustees of the Washington National Cathedral Foundation and Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane, Morocco.
Knapp also worked as the senior advisory board of the Northern Virginia Technology Council, the executive committee of the Council on Competitiveness, and the education committee of the Federal City Council.
