Steve was born as Steven J. Morse in Hamilton, Ohio, United States of American to American parents. He is an American and is of white ethnicity. Though he was born in Hamilton, he spends most of his childhood days in Tennessee and Ypsilanti, Michigan.

1969

Joined the band called Three

As a child, he became familiar in music as a pianist. He then began his interest in guitar. Steve then joined his brother's band The Plague. During the late 1960s, he played in the band called Three.

1975

Graduated from University of Miami

He received his formal education from Academy of Richmond County. He also became active in music while he was in his high school days. After his high school graduation, he joined University of Miami and he finally graduated from there in 1975.

1976

Released their debut album, The Great Spectacular

While he was attending Academy of Richmond County, he met Andy West a well known bassist and with him he formed the band, Dixie Grit. In 1975, they changed its name to Dixie Dregs. In 1976, they released their debut album, The Great Spectacular.

Released their second album, Free Fall

In 1977, they released their second album, Free Fall and their third album, What If was released in 1978. Though they released three albums within one year, they lacked something in their band. They lacked cohesion and unity.

1994

Joined the British hard rock group Deep Purple

In 1983, Dixie Dregs disbanded and then he formed The Steve Morse Band with his fellow bassist Jerry Peek and drummer Doug Morgan. In 1994, he joined the British hard rock group Deep Purple. Till now, he has released five albums with them.
