Herera was born on November 15, 1957, in Spokane, Washington, USA. Her father was a shoe wholesaler while her mother was a housewife.   

The television personality earned the B.J. (Bachelor of Journalism) degree from California State University, Northridge (CSUN). Shortly after she completed her graduation, she was hired by KNXT TV (now KCBS-TV) station in Los Angeles.

Her business reporting career was started in 1981 when she covered the highly technical futures industry for brand new Financial News Network; after getting success in this field, she soon started anchoring.

Since then, Herera has hosted a lot of shows including Business TonightMarket WrapThe Money, Business Center, The EdgeWheel, and Power Lunch.
