A native of Boston, Massachusetts, Susan Tedeschi was born on the 9th of November 1970 to an Italian ancestry family. Her father, Dick Tedeschi runs “Tedeschi Food Shops”  in Rockland, Massachusetts, which was founded by her great-grandfather, Angelo Tedeschi where her grandfather, Nick Tedeschi also served.

Susan grew up in Norwell, Massachusetts. At the age of six, she made her public appearance in a Broadway musical. In her youth, she sang for her family and often used to listen to her father’s collection of old vinyl recordings of musicians such as Lightning Hopkins and Mississippi John Hurt.

Raised as a Catholic, Tedeschi was also inspired by the church choir. At her 18, she originally formed a group, the Smokin’s Selection. Upon graduation from Norwell High School, she enrolled at the Berklee College of Music where she sang in a Gospel Choir.
