Sydney Leroux was born on May 7, 1990, as Sydney Rae Leroux Dwyer in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. Leroux's birth sign is Taurus. She also played baseball for Whalley Little League from 1994-2004. Her parents got separated when her mother was three months pregnant with her.

During the sophomore year of her high school, she attended the Johnston Heights Secondary School in Surrey where she was the leading scorer for her team. Leroux played three seasons of club soccer with Coquitlam City Wild and helped the team win finishing third at the under-14 national tournament in 2003.

She received a bronze medal for helping her team finish third at the under-16 national tournament in 2005. She has also won a championship at the Canada Games in 2005 while playing for British Columbia.

From an early age, Sydney wanted to play for the United States women's national soccer team. She moved to Scottsdale, Arizona at 15 years of age to pursue her goal. There, she attended Horizon High School.

She played for the United States women's national soccer team starting in 2008 and later began playing for the U.S senior national team in the year 2012.

Sydney has earned more than 75 caps with the senior national team and was part of the American winning team at the 2012 London 2012 Olympics game and also in the 2015 Women's World Cup.

During her college years, she played collegiate soccer in the NCAA Division I for the UCLA Bruins women's soccer and at the semi-professional level for the Vancouver Whitecaps. Her debut for the Whitecaps came at the age of fifteen after being the youngest player ever to play for the team.

Sydney was the number one pick-up for the Atlanta Beat during the 2012 WPS Draft on January 13, 2012, where she played alongside her national team keeper, Hope Solo.

After the league's suspension in early 2012, she played for the Seattle Sounders women during the summer of the same year.

In 2013, Sydney made her professional debut for the Boston Breakers in the NSWL during the league's inaugural season. She was later traded to fellow national teammate Megan Rapinoe's team Seattle Reign FC in 2014, Western New York Flash for the 2015 season, and FC Kansas City prior to the 2016 season.
