Snyder started teaching computer science as an assistant professor at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. in 1987. He worked as adjunct associate dean for science education in the College of Arts and Sciences from 1993–95. He also served as a chairman of Georgetown’s Department of Computer Science from 1994–95.
His mathematical research focused on convex hulls, Steiner trees, and worst-case analysis of total length and individual lengths geometric graphs. He also served as a visiting professor at Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Snyder worked as the dean at Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut from 2001-2007. He also worked as a Vice President as well as professor of Mathematics at Loyola University Maryland from 2007 to 2014. He has researched on Millennial Generation and technique to educate them all over the world. He has learned about “technology” for more than 20 years and formed a series of podcasts called LCAST that helped the student.

Later, he was selected as the President of Loyola Marymount University (LMU), in March 2015 replacing David W. Burcham.
