He then joined UCLA in 1986 and during his junior year where he was honored with the Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Year. In the 1989 NFL Draft, he was signed by the Dallas Cowboys and the play with them for the next 12 years. After his retirement, Aikman joined Fox's NFC telecasts as a sports commentator for the 2001 season. In 2002, he was named the network's lead announcing crew alongside Joe Buck and Cris Collinsworth.
He also hosts a weekly sports radio show on Sporting News Radio, which airs on Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. ET. During twelve consecutive seasons as a quarterback at the Cowboys, he was a six-time Pro Bowl selection, led the team to three Super Bowl victories, and was the MVP of Super Bowl XXVII.
A former joint owner of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series racing team Hall of Fame Racing along with fellow former Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach, Troy was also a part-owner of the San Diego Padres.
