On 28th of February 1988, Val got married to Joanne Whalley. Joanne Whalley is a British actress and she is known for starring the lead role in CBS' Jackie Bouvier Kennedy Onassis. They met each other for the first time while both of them were on the set of movie, Willow. From this married life they also became parents twice. Though they were completely dedicated towards each other, this married life came to an end on 1st of February 1996.
Val was raised in San Fernando Valley. As a child he joined Berkeley Hall School and studied there till he was in his 9th grade. Then he joined Chatsworth High School and Hollywood Professional School. William Woods University honored him with the honorary doctorate of Fine Arts in 2012. He has been active in acting since 1977. In 1977, he joined Juilliard School's Drama Division and appeared in Group 10 till 1981. In 1981, he also appeared in the play How It All Began. Though he denied appearing in the movie The Outsiders, he accepted the role of Nick Rivers in the movie Top Secret!. He got his rise in fame after starring this role.
