Steve Harvey entered the comedy industry in 1985. But it was not until much later that Steve gained critical acclamation. Harvey used to perform comic gigs during his early days at the time when he was homeless. Steve had revealed in an interview that he used to sleep in his car, shower in gas stations or swimming pool showers, and he was never certain of the next meal he would be having. This phase for him lasted for more than 2  years.

But Steve Harvey slowly and steadily made his way through Hollywood. Harvey was a finalist in the 2nd Annual Johnnie Walker National Comedy Search which led to a long stint as the host of Its Showtime at the Apollo. His success as a stand-up comedian led to a starring role on the ABC shows Me and the Boys in 1994. He later starred on the WB Network show The Steve Harvey Show, which ran from 1996 to 2002.
