German club Bayern Munich signed him on 9 February 2012 from Basel for €11.6 million as his transfer fee. He was then transferred to Italian club Inter Milan on 9 January 2015 with a four-year contract but did not remain there for long as English club Stoke City agreed to a £12 million fee on a four-year deal.
