Potts graduated from Franklin – Simpson; she received a degree in Bachelor in Fine Arts from Stephens College, Missouri. At the age of 21, Potts got caught in a fatal car accident that left every bone below her waist broken but bravely overcame the injuries and after a few years of her accident, she started working as a successful actress.
Potts made her debut on the screen in 1978 in the Metro- Goldwyn- Mayer comedy film Corvette Summer, with Mark Hamill. Anna was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 1979 for a role in the film, in 1982 she won Genie Awards for Best Performance by a Foreign Actress for her role in the film Heartaches where she portrayed a young woman, married to a stock car racer, carrying his friend’s child.
