As a child, Beth was more interested in sports than her study. She was active as a basketball, softball and soccer player when she was in Cicero-North Syracuse High School. After the completion of her high school graduation, she joined Lafayette College. There she also served as a captain of the basketball team for about two years. She finally earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1989 and received her master's degree from Syracuse University. She has been active as a journalist since 1991. That year, she joined WXHC-FM Radio and worked as a news and sports director. After spending several years there, she joined ESPN as a sports journalist. In 2009, she was inducted into the Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame.
