Soon after getting signed to Mercury records, he started recording and penning songs under his name. His hard work paid off when his debut country album opened to #1 on the Billboard 200 and remained in that position for a staggering 17 weeks. Not only that, his album was certified 9 times Platinum by RIAA.

Married Cindy Smith

In 1986, Cyrus married Cindy Smith whom he co-wrote the songs "Wher'm I Gonna Live?" and "Some Gave All", both of which were featured on his 1992 debut album Some Gave All. She was not only his co-writer in songs but also an inspiration.

Release of It Won't Be the Last

Billy Cyrus's sophomore effort It Won't Be The Last was recorded in 1992 - the same year his debut album was released. . It featured 'In the Heart of a Woman' that reached #3 on Billboard.

It was certified platinum by RIAA.

Starred in Radical Jack

Talented Cyrus showed his acting skills in Radical Jack as CIA agent and former Navy SEAL Jack Reynolds that travels undercover in Vermont to track down weapon smugglers. He also portrayed his romantic side as he played love interest of Deede Pfeiffer. 

Starred in TV Series Doc

Apart from music, he has shown veritable acting talent in TV show Doc where he plays Clint Cassidy, a kindhearted doctor who movies from New York to Westbury to be with his girlfriend only to get dumped. Some of Cyrus' music also found its way on to the program as well, including tracks from his 2000 album Southern Rain. The show ended in 2004.

Like father like daughter, Miley also followed in the footsteps of his father and made a successful pop music artist owing to the success of Hannah Montana. Cyrus appears as her father in the show. The show ran from 2006 to 2011 and had loyal fans.

Billy Ray Cyrus was a theatrical dynamo and had explored music and acting for quite some time. But in 2007, he surprised everyone by joining the likes of Olympic speedskater Apolo Anton Ohno, singer Joey Fatone and actor Ian Ziering on the popular series Dancing with the Stars. Although he struggled at first but he lasted eight weeks in the competition.
