Carlo received her formal education from Minerva High School. With the completion of her high school graduation, she joined Kent State University. She received her Bachelor of Arts in journalism from there. She began her broadcasting career in Akron. There she received an award for police and court reporter. After that, she joined WSYX and WBNS 10-TV. She was also honored with the Emmy award for her work as an anchor and reporter. In 1992, she joined WBAL-TV as a news presenter.
