Stapleton moved from Kentucky to Nashville in 2001 to pursue his career in music and was signed to Sea Gayle Music as a songwriter. He joined a band named The Steeldrivers in 2007, where they produced two hits records which both peaked at #2 until Chris left it in 2010.
Chris then founded his own band called The Jompson Brothers and released an independent self-titled album in November 2010.
