1953

Born in China

Hu Shuli was from the middle class family born somewhere in China to Cao Qifeng, Hu Lingsheng. She is Chinese and is also of Chinese descent. She received her formal education from 101 Middle School. She really had hard days when she was in her mid teens. 

1982

Graduated from People's University of China

As The Cultural Revolution brought some difficulty in her life, Hu became Red Guard and traveled around China. That time she also gained knowledge as much as she could. In 1978 she joined People’s University of China, and she graduated from there with a bachelor degree in journalism in 1982.

1992

Joined China Business Times

After earning her Bachelor’s degree in journalism from People’s University of China, she began working as a reporter and editor at the Worker's Daily. Within few years after serving China Business Times as an editor, she was made their chief reporter. 

1998

Founded Caijing

Finally in 1998, she founded an independent magazine, Caijing. For the next 11 years, she served as the editor-in-chief. This news mainly covered the news related to the societal, political, and economic issues of Peoples Republic of China. 

2003

Became the International Editor of the Year

Since the beginning of her career, she has been honored with several prestigious awards. In 2003, she was also honored with the International Editor of the Year. She was honored with this award by the World Press Review.

Won Louis Lyons Award

In 1994, she received an honor at Stanford and that was the Knight Journalism Fellow. In 2007, she was honored with the Louis Lyons Award. She won this award for being Conscience and Integrity in Journalism. She received this honor at Harvard University.

2009

Resigned from Caijing

Though she was the founder of the Chinese business and finance magazine, Caijing and she also severed in this magazine as their editor-in-chief for more than a decade, she resigned from this magazine in November 2009. She resigned along with 90 percent of Caijing's journalists.

Was called one of the most powerful commentators in China

Once she was also listed as the The Stars of Asia: 50 Leaders at the forefront of change. In 2006, she also received an honor from the Financial Times and that was being one of the most powerful commentators in China.
