Caldwell began his career as the basketball player from his college life, From that time, he was the player who comes to the eyes of every game lovers. As a senior player, he has scored 31 points and 8.2 rebounds per game at Greenville High School in Greenville, Georgia.
After college Caldwell-Pope signed to Detroit Pistons of NBA, on June 27, 2013, for summer league and scored high score of his career i.e. 30 points in a loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Following, Tannell joined the Pistons for the summer league of 2014, where he scored 24.0 points and 7.4 rebounds in five games. Head coach Stan Van Gundy accepted Caldwell-Pope as the best perimeter defender for the pistons team.
