1947

Sang onstage at Macon City Auditorium

As Richard was small and skinny as a child, he was named "Lil' Richard" by his parents. A moron child who misbehaved his neighbor, Richard grew up singing in church. His parents were highly religious and he also enjoyed the worship and live music. At the end of 1947, when Sister Rosetta Tharpe was on her concerts at Macon City Auditorium she heard Little Richard singing two of her gospel recordings. She was impressed by his voice and took him to sing onstage during the concert.

Joined Dr Hudson's Medicine Show

After receiving acclaim for his performance at at Macon City Auditorium with Sister Rosetta Tharpe, he began singing. He also sang for the traveling shows for several months. In 1948, he joined Dr. Hudson's Medicine Show.
