Anderson was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota, the United States to father Louis William Anderson and mother, Ora Zella. Anderson is the second youngest son out of 11 children in his family.

1986

Appeared in Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Anderson appeared in the singing telegram scene "Ferris Bueller's Day Off". A year later, Anderson featured in a comedy special on Showtime. After that, Anderson appeared in the comedy movie, Coming to America, which was directed by Johan Landis.

Anderson created and produced a Saturday morning animated series for Fox channel, Life With Louie. The story is based on the real life of Anderson's childhood together with 10 siblings, a loving mother, and a loud, war-crazed father.

Anderson began his professional career as a stand-up comedian on The Tonight Show. Following this, he appeared on the pilot episode of Perfect Strangers on ABC network where he was cast as  Lou Appleton along with Bronson Pinchot. When the show picked up, Anderson was replaced by Mark Linn-Baker as the producers didn't like the chemistry between Anderson and Pinchot. 

In 1986, Anderson appeared in a small role in the singing telegram scene in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. A year later, Anderson featured in a comedy special on Showtime. Following this, Anderson appeared in the comedy movie, Coming to America, which was directed by Johan Landis.

Later in 1995, Anderson created and produced a Saturday morning animated series for Fox channel, Life With Louie. The story is based on the real-life of Anderson's childhood together with ten siblings, a loving mother, and a loud, war-crazed father. This series became a hit and won the Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program.

On July 23, 2017, Anderson appeared on an episode of Celebrity Family Feud competing singer and actress Christina Milian. This makes him one of very few to have both hosted and been a contestant on the same game show.
