Obama surprises Vice President of the United States Joe Biden with Presidential Medal of Freedom

President Barack Obama for the last time as a President awarded the Vice President Joe Biden with one of the most prestigious awards at the White House. It was a very emotional moment for Vice President Joe Biden when he was being honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom with distinction, the nation's highest civilian honor.

We could see the emotion and respect flowing from the eyes of Vice President Biden at the White House ceremony. President Obama addressed Joe Biden to be most faithful person towards his country and the best Vice President ever.

"For your faith in your fellow Americans, for your love of country, and for your lifetime of service that will ensure through the generations. I'd like to ask the military side to join us on stage, for my final time as President; I am pleased to award our nation's highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom"

said President Barak Obama with Joe Biden by his side.

Joe Biden was astonished by the announcement made by Obama as he just turned around tearing up and grabbing his handkerchief. Vice President Joe became the fourth person to receive this supreme honor. Prior to him, three presidents was given such honor, Pope Jhon Paul II, President Ronald Reagan and General Colin Powell

Biden was lauded for his nearly 50 years of public service cited by the aide.

"With his charm, candor, unabashed optimism and deep and abiding patriotism, Joe Biden has garnered the respect and esteem of colleagues of both parties, and the friendship of people across the nation and around the world." ?

"I had no inkling" was the first thing Vice President Joe Biden said as the medal was set around his neck. "I thought we were going …. to toast one another and say what an incredible journey it has been." Joe Biden throughout his speech kept on saying that the award he has been honored was just too immense.

 

'I don’t deserve this," the Vice President Joe Biden said constantly. The longtime Delaware senator and Pennsylvania native were also declared as a "Lion of American history' and the 'best vice president America's ever had".  Addressing President Obama Joe Biden shared few words to him saying he has always stood by his side.

Joe Biden stated that he has never met such person who is filled with such integrity and the decency and the sense of other people's needs.  He told, "Mr. President, you got right the part about my learning on Jill but I've also leaned on you and a lot of people in this room."

The Washington Post posted after Biden received the award,

"As a vice president, Biden's influence has spanned from both domestic and international policy initiatives. He was a critical voice in crafting strategy in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and in encouraging Obama to send Navy SEALs on a mission to capture or kill Osama Bin Laden in 2011"
