While Philippe was a child, he followed his elder brothers Cristiano and Leandro to a local football ground, where he started playing futsal. Later he joined a local football academy on behalf of his friend's grandmother and approached at a tournament by youth coaches at Vasco da Gama, where he attended a trial and joined their youth team.
A few years later, Philippe made a contract with Italian side Internazionale in 2008 for €4 million, and subsequently, he loaned to Vasco, where he became a key player. He played for Internazionale in 2010 and was believed to be the future of the club due to his performance in his early matches but failed to impress later. He could not make his place in the playing set so was loaned to La Liga club Espanyol in 2012.
