Joanne was born on 15th January 1928 in Bakersfield, California, the United States of America. She completed her high school education in Long Beach, California. Before studying acting, she had worked as an oral surgeon’s assistant.

Linville started her professional career in 1950. However, she grabbed attention in 1958 for appearing in The Goddess. Her motion-picture credits include Gable and Lombard, A Star Is Born, The Seduction, and James Dean.

In 1959, she appeared on the CBS daytime drama The Guiding Light.
